Logan, Utah, USA
Wasatch Photonics, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of advanced holographic optics for the optical networking, defense, test & measurement, and medical industries, today announced the opening of its new manufacturing facility.
The new 6500 square foot facility features innovative manufacturing processes, state of the art equipment, and clean rooms. This new facility will enable Wasatch Photonics to respond to the growing demand for athermal volume phase holographic (VPH) optics and diffraction gratings. These VPH products, made with dichromated gelatin recording films, are used in a variety of applications with a broad range of requirements. Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing requires the highest performance dispersion components and must meet rigid Telcordia specifications. Medical diagnostic components may be smaller than one millimeter square, Heads Up Display optics and telescope gratings are typically 50-400 millimeter square, and solar energy concentrators may be as large as one meter square. The new facility will allow Wasatch Photonics to satisfy the needs of all of these applications.
“Wasatch Photonics principals have created, developed, and commercialized high-performance holographic optics using enhanced dichromated gelatin films during the past 25 years” said Co-Founder and CEO Gerald Heidt. “This new facility allows us to significantly expand our overall capabilities and move over all of the work we had been performing at nearby Ralcon Development Labs, which is owned by our CTO Dr. Richard Rallison”.
The manufacturing line will have the capacity to produce many thousands of holographic optics and gratings per month providing a-thermal performance in a rugged, scratch-resistant, easily handled product.
Heidt stated “This is our launching pad for expansion in the market and allows us to increase production, leverage our intellectual property, and enable new technology platforms. Our products are critical components in our customers’ optical systems and this new facility will enable us to assure them that we can meet their volume production needs now and in the future.”
