Senior Accountant

Wasatch Photonics is seeking a self-directed and experienced Senior Accountant to provide full cycle accounting functionality with job cost accounting experience.  The chosen candidate will be responsible for the local accounting duties including month-end closing support, costing accounting, inventory control and valuation, accounts receivable, accounts payable, fixed assets, and timekeeping.  The candidate will also support other department such as sales, marketing, and human resource with administrative functions.

Location: Durham, North Carolina


  • Assist CFO by assuming primary responsibility for all accounting related functions for location
  • Support month-end closing process and preparation of company financial statements, including journal entry, account reconciliations, and trend analysis
  • Help evaluate, recommend and implement new financial accounting policies, procedures, financial systems, and controls, including the implementation of a new cost accounting system
  • Responsible for labor time tracking and cost assignment
  • Prepare invoices for payment including verification for correctness of quantity received, price, and match to purchase order and packing slip
  • Assist in the collection of employee expense receipts and expense reports
  • Interacting with customers regarding open invoices, debit and credit memos and take necessary actions to resolve disputed items
  • Provide timely customer follow-up and document all activities/communication in the system
  • Maintain fixed asset and demo inventories
  • Responsible for the reporting of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods inventory and valuation
  • Provide support to management team and internal/external customers as needs arise, including ad-hoc projects
  • Perform sales, marketing, and human resource reporting and administrative functions as needed

Qualifications / Education

  • B.S. or higher degree in Accounting
  • 5+ years of increasing responsibility in accounting or finance
  • 2+ years of cost accounting experience preferred
  • Strong knowledge in Microsoft Excel
  • Demonstrated analytical and organization skills
  • Comfortable prioritizing multiple work streams across daily responsibilities and long-term projects
  • Must be team oriented; enjoys working with colleagues at all levels of the organization
